Welcome to Cobra Country!

Welcome to my web page! I am in my fourth year as the Superintendent of the Triton Public Schools! It is a privilege to be the Superintendent of this quality school district! I enjoyed sixteen years serving as the Triton High School Principal, a position which I had an opportunity to work with an amazing staff of professionals! Triton is a $13.8 million dollar school district with about 1,170 students Pre-K-12th grade.

Four years ago we opened our school by finishing a state-of-the-art multi-use turf athletic field! It is so exciting to see the new added academic and extra-curricular facilities for all students! We are able to utilize this for physical education and elementary recess, along with softball, baseball, soccer, track & field and football.

Triton is a great school system that is large enough to offer pre-college courses, AP courses and is small enough to care about every student! Our Pre-K-5 building offers small class size and personalized learning opportunities for everyone.  All or our buildings- Pre-K-5th grade, 6th-8th grade and 9th-12th grade offer a safe and caring environment to learn.  We have implemented a research-based Olweus anti-bullying program at all level of our instruction with character education to ensure behavioral awareness.

Triton High School requires all seniors to successfully complete Senior Project as a graduation requirement. All seniors take Senior Seminar class and do a research paper and prepare a presentation to a board of community members and educational staff in order to graduate. This is just a small part of what makes Triton High a great school!

Personally, I went to high school in Bemidji, Minnesota, where I graduated with honors in 1979. I grew up on a resort near Bemidji, MN, where my family operated Two Acres Resort on Lake Movil.

I began my administrative career at Le Center High School, in Le Center, Minnesota, where I spent two years as the high school principal grades 7-12. Before Le Center, I taught nine years of pre-college elective social studies courses to juniors and seniors at Stewartville High School. Specifically I taught sociology, psychology, AP Psychology, economics and global issues. I also coached Girls’ Basketball, Girls' Tennis and started a Boys’ Tennis program at SHS.

Academically, I graduated from Bemidji State University in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Social Studies Education with athletic coaching certification. I earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology from The University of Iowa in 1993 with an emphasis in Instructional Design and Technology. I have done research in statistics and measurement, total quality management (TQM), adult learning and teacher expertise. While a graduate student, I also taught a general psychology
class at Kirkwood Community College in Iowa City.

I completed my Education Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Winona State University in 1998. My research thesis was a study of teachers’ grading practices and knowledge of quantitative measurement and statistics.

Professionally, I have presented at state and local educational conferences. I have served on various committees with MASSP and as Past-President of the SE MN Secondary School Principals. I have served as the Southeast High School Principal of the Year, which is a nomination from a colleague. I have published training and instructional packages for educational and business use. I have also done nation-wide corporate training for a Fortune 100 corporation.

I am now an active member of Minnesota School Board Association (MSBA) and Minnesota Association of School Administrators (MASA).

Personally, I am married and have three children and five grandchildren. My wife, Renae, is employed by CTG Inc., of Rochester as its Site Manager.

I enjoy tennis, golf, water and snow skiing, exercise, reading and traveling. I am a tennis teaching professional and enjoy teaching lessons to all age groups! I have completed three marathons with a personal best time at The 1989 Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth of 3 hours, 34 minutes and 12 seconds.

Now that I've turned 56 years old I have recommitted to my passion for golf and still enjoy playing competitive USTA league tennis! I have coached a group of American tennis players against the British and then visited Wimbledon.  I am a 4.0 USTA rated tennis player! Still glad to be able to play the game for a lifetime! This year I attended the US Open in NYC! I saw Roger Federer play Kohlschreiber in the round of 8 from the USTA President's Box with a good friend, Scott Boyer.  This was a great "bucket List" experience!
