Triton BPA

Triton’s Business Professionals of America (BPA) chapter was a dominant force at their Regional Competition on Wednesday, January 3.  After competing against over 300 students from ten area schools, 35 Triton BPA members have qualified for the State Leadership Conference in Minneapolis this March.

BPA is the nation’s leading career and technical student organization, providing members the opportunity to develop skills and leadership abilities, further their knowledge, and prepare for a career in a variety of areas including business administration, finance & accounting, information technology, video production, human resources, computer programming, graphic design, small business & entrepreneurship, and health services.

Advisor Rebecca Goossens shared this is the largest number of students Triton has ever had compete at Regionals, as well as the largest number of State Trip winners, and all of those who participated deserve credit for their commitment.

“These kids put in incredible amounts of time and effort into learning new skills, creating projects, and preparing for their events, and this is a huge achievement,” said Goossens.

Students competed individually and in teams in a variety of categories where they demonstrated their knowledge and a variety of skills by taking a test, creating a project, giving a speech, or presenting to a judge.

“BPA is not only a great opportunity for students to network with their peers, but every judge is also someone in the industry, so it’s a great chance for them to create relationships with leaders in the workforce they’re soon going to enter,” said Goossens.

In addition to competing, students also participated in a service drive and gave back to the community through a donation drive to Family Promise of Greater Rochester, whose mission is to assist families at risk of or experiencing homelessness to achieve sustainable independence by providing person-centered, holistic services in collaboration with the greater community.

The State BPA Conference and Competition to be held March 14-16 against roughly 2,000 other students from schools across the state.
